Summer 2015: Consulting Stories
In this issue, many of the authors explore tutoring sessions through short-stories and poems. Carolyn Smith's "Tutors" is written from the perspective of an anxious student who has her first tutoring session. Nick Moore offers two free-verse poems about grammar. Juan Soriano created a series of memes about the Learning Center, and Melanie Taylor developed an Instagram page to humanize peer-to-peer interaction. Lisa Bisso's "Dear Tutor" is a dialogue between a freshman and an experienced tutor, and finally, Madeline Seller's "One Bad Experience" is about a transfer student who overcomes a negative tutoring session. This talented group presents innovative ways to think about tutoring. Together, they respond to this question: What is the influence of narratives that tutors and students tell themselves about working with their peers?
